I am a relational counselor and use this approach in my work with individuals and families alike. My approach, based on Structural Family Therapy, is strength based and supported by years of positive evidence of its effectiveness. When I look at an individual that may be struggling, I consider the context in which their problem occurs. As humans, we are reactive. Our reaction is a response to the communication we are receiving or the context in which we are operating including the roles of all parties involved and the hidden rules that maintain these roles. When interactions are considered from a relational perspective, sometimes small adjustments can quickly lead to positive changes.
This approach is also helpful in working with individuals affected by Autism. Learning to understand the variables that create context can help increase understanding social cues and interpersonal interaction.
In-home family counseling services are available to assist families in addressing challenges with which the family or an individual within the family may be struggling. After an initial assessment session, additional sessions will typically be 90 minutes in length. Family sessions often require more time in order to address the needs and concerns of all those involved. I have a variety of scheduling options available which includes evenings and weekend possibilities to better meet the needs of families.
In-Home individual counseling is available for children, adolescents and adults. Individual counseling is typically scheduled in 60 minute blocks. The therapeutic goals that we address are mutually agreed upon and you are an active participant throughout the therapeutic process.
Connections – Small Group Counseling
Connections is a small group therapy experience for youth diagnosed with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (HF-ASD). Children with neurological differences, that are the hallmark of HF-ASD, often struggle with communication challenges and skill deficits that make navigating the world very challenging. Connections will allow your child to work on social skills, discuss concerns and challenges, share their unique gifts, make friends and have fun.
I am currently in the process of establishing groups for several age ranges: Adolescents; Young Adults; and Adults. If you have an interest in participating please let me know and we will see what will work best for you and/or your loved one.
Unsure what’s best for you?
If you are uncertain what type of therapy would be best, I encourage you to call me and we can talk about your concerns and needs. Each individual and/or family is unique and I will always do my best to adjust my services to meet your needs.
Please feel free to reach out: call or email and we can discuss your concerns and decide how I can best meet your needs or the needs of your family.
