I am a relational counselor and use this approach in my work with individuals and families alike. My approach, based on Structural Family Therapy, is strength based and supported by years of positive evidence of its effectiveness. When I look at an individual that may be struggling, I consider the context in which their problem occurs. As humans, we are reactive. Our reaction is a response to the communication we are receiving or the context in which we are operating including the roles of all parties involved and the hidden rules that maintain these roles. When interactions are considered from a relational perspective, sometimes small adjustments can quickly lead to positive changes.

This approach is also helpful in working with neurologically diverse individuals. Learning to understand the variables that create context can help increase understanding social cues and interpersonal interaction.

Family Counseling

Family counseling services are available to assist families in addressing challenges with which the family or an individual within the family may be struggling. After an initial assessment session, additional sessions will typically be 90 minutes in length. Family sessions often require more time in order to address the needs and concerns of all those involved. I have a variety of scheduling options available which includes evenings and weekend possibilities to better meet the needs of families.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is available for children, adolescents and adults. Individual counseling sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes in length depending on the needs of the individual. The therapeutic goals that we address are mutually agreed upon and you are an active participant throughout the therapeutic process.

Neurodiverse Couples Counseling

Couples in which one or both partners are neurodivergent can be particularly challenging. Differences in communication and perspective taking can wear on one’s patience and increase frustrations resulting in resentment and feelings of hopelessness. As in any other relationship, having a good understanding of the challenges that you or your loved one may be experiencing can be extremely helpful in reframing understanding and appreciating how accommodation on the part of both individuals can facilitate growth and renewed joy in your relationship.

Connections – Small Group Counseling

Small groups are periodically initiated in order to help individuals gain comfort with others, understand that they are not alone in their struggle, and facilitate the development of friendships and community.

If you or a loved one is interested in participating in group sessions, please contact me about groups currently meeting.
